Part 1: Preparation before coming to China

 

1. Applying for the Chinese Visa

Student Visa

International students have to apply for the Chinese visa at the embassies and consulates of China in their home countries. Documents needed when applying for the visa are valid passport, original copy of admission letter of the university and Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (also known as the JW201/JW202 Form).

 

Notice: Please make sure your admission letter of the university and JW201/JW202 Form are returned back to you together with your passport when you obtain your Chinese visa. These documents are needed when applying for the Residence Permit after your arrival in China. International students who will study in China for more than six months are required to have the student visa, also known as the “X1” Visa. Those who study in China for less than six months could apply for “short-term study visa”, namely “X2”Visa.The student visa/“X1”Visa is valid for only 30 days. You must apply for your Residence Permit within these 30 days in order to stay in China legally.

 

2. Physical Examination

Before coming to China, international students should have the physical examination according to the Foreigner’s Health Certificate in their home countries. They can also have the physical examination after their arrival in China.

 

Notice: Those who have the physical examination in your home countries should have the result verified at the health center of Beijing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. If the report is not qualified, you have to retake the physical examination and get a health report issued by the health center. Those who fail to pass the physical examination cannot study in China.

 

3. Accommodation Application

International students should submit the accommodation application together with the Beijing Forestry University Application Form. They should check in at the International Student Dormitory on the registration day. Those who arrive before the registration day will arrange for their accommodation by themselves.

 

1) Live on campus

Double room: RMB 60/bed/day

Single room: RMB 80/person/day

BFU will arrange accommodations for international students with Chinese Government Scholarship. Single rooms will be provided for PhD students and double rooms are for master and undergraduate students.

Students who would like to live off campus could get house rental information through the housing agencies around.

4. Bank Information and Relative Spending

International students could exchange their currencies into RMB and open an account at the banks near campus.

Banks in Beijing can exchange the following currencies into RMB: GBP, HKD, USD, EUR, JPY, CAD and AUD. It is recommended that each student could bring about RMB 5,500 along which would cover their one-month living expenses in Beijing to cover their accommodations and transportation etc..

 

5. Required Documents

Those following documents are required upon arrival:

● Valid passport and Chinese visa

● Original copy of admission letter of BFU

Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (the JW201/JW202 Form)

● Tuition

● Photos in passport size (six copies)

● Physical Examination Report (if completed in your home country)

● Passport and visa of relatives, marriage certificate and birth certificate (if needed)

It is strongly recommended that students should keep two copies of those important documents such as passport and admission letter of the university.

 

6. Packing

 

International students are suggested to take their necessary personal belongings. No matter daily uses and electronic products, such as laptop could be brought in Beijing.

You could also take some pictures, photos and souvenirs of your hometown along with you. They will alleviate your home-sickness to some certain extents.

Part 2: Upon your arrival in China

 

1. How to get to Beijing Forestry University from the airport

1) Taxi

The most convenient way is taking a taxi. The Beijing Capital International Airport is located in the northeast of Beijing. It is about 35 km from BFU.

The price rate of Beijing taxi is usually RMB 2/km. It costs about RMB 100 to take a taxi from the airport to BFU, and the freeway road-toll (RMB 10) is included. It takes less than one hour to get to BFU from the airport. Please ask the taxi to enter the campus from the southwest gate and stop in front the administrative building (a three-storey red building).

 

2) Airport Shuttle Bus

Airport shuttle bus (Line 5), the terminal of which is ZHONG GUAN CUN(中关村) is also a good choice. The shuttle fee is RMB 16 /person. Its departure location is outside Gate No.15 of domestic arrival. When getting off at ZHONG GUAN CUN stationyou can take a taxi to cover the rest of the way toward the campus. It will cost about RMB 16-RMB 20. It will spend about 1 hour.

3)Subway

Subway will be the cheapest way to get to the campus. First, students can take the airport express(25) and get off at SAN YUANQIAO or DONG ZHIMEN station. And then transfer other lines and get on line 15 and finally get off at QINGHUADONGLUXIKOU station (Exit B and 200 meters to the east). It will totally cost RMB30 and around 1 hour.

At DONG ZHIMEN station, the first-run vehicle is 600am, the last-run vehicle is 2230pm

At Terminal 2, the first-run vehicle is 635am, the last-run vehicle is 2310pm

At Terminal 3, the first-run vehicle is 621am, the last-run vehicle is 2251pm

2. Registration with local authorities

In accordance with Rules for the Implementation of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Control of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners, international students have to register at the local police station for the temporary residence (unless stay at a hotel temporarily). Those who live in the campus, the international student office will offer the registration certificate for them. If those who live off the campus not register on time, they will be warned or charged a fine of less than RMB 500 by the local police station.

 

3. Opening a bank account/ SIM card

After registering at the office, international students will be organized by the office staff to go the nearest bank and China mobile hall to open them. It will take a few days to get the bank card, so students had better bring enough cash before the scholarships are received.

-You must present your passport and your new cell phone number when you open your bank account and exchange currencies.

 

4. Medical Insurance

According to regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, international students are required to participate in the comprehensive medical insurance program of China. The insurance should be brought on the registration day. If you don’t buy the insurance as required, you cannot register.

  1. The insurance fee is RMB 800 for one year and RMB 400 for six months.

    2)  The insurance fee of those students who get Chinese government scholarships will be paid by the MOE.

    Insurance Claim in Ping’an Insurance Company, please dial 4008105119

    When you get ill and need to see the doctor, you can dial the claim number of the insurance company 4008105119 and transfer line 1. The health consultant will provides the medical guidance and notes when claiming. If you need further treatment and outpatient after consulting, you can apply for advanced pay by the insurance company. After the health consultant confirm with the hospital, it can be activated.

     

     

    Part Three Registration

     

    1. Registration

    All the international students enrolled by Beijing Forestry University should register at the university on certain registration dates and bring the following documents when registering:

  2. Original copy of admission letter

  3. Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (JW201/JW202 Form)

  4. Physical examination report and blood test report (if you have)

  5. Valid passport and visa

  6. Photos (six copies) in passport size

  7. Tuition fee and insurance fee

    Students should finish all the registration procedures in person. Others are not permitted to do this for them. They should pay the tuition fee before or on the registration day, otherwise they cannot register at the university. If they fail to register on certain dates, please send us a request in writing by email or fax and explain the reason.

Students with scholarships:

1) Take your passport, admission letter, JW201/JW202 Form, physical examination and blood test report and six copies of your photos in passport size to register at the International Student Office. Complete the Beijing Forestry University International Student Registration Form and finish procedures of dormitory application.

2) Receive Beijing Forestry University International Student Handbook and first month subsidy.

Subsidy standards for students with CSC scholarships:

Undergraduates: RMB 2500; Masters and junior visiting scholars: RMB 3000; PhD and senior visiting scholars: RMB 3500.

For more scholarship subsidy standards, you can find in the admission letter.

3) Students who want to participate in Chinese language training program will receive text books and syllabus. Students who directly begin their major studies should take Student Registration Notice to register at their own schools.

4) Have the physical examination or health report verification at the Health Center of Beijing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

5) Participate in the orientation activities organized by International Student Office.

6) Submit the Beijing Forestry University International Student Registration Form and College Registration Transfer Order signed by dean of the college to the International Student Office, and provide your Chinese address and Chinese phone number to the office.

7) Receive student ID, campus card and medical card.

8) The insurance cards for the students with Chinese Government Scholarships will be kept by CSC.

 

Self-supporting Students:

1) Take your passport, admission letter, JW202 Form, physical examination and blood test report (if you have) and six copies of your photos in passport size to register at the International Student Office and complete the Beijing Forestry University International Student Registration Form.

2) Take the Student Tuition Notice Letter from the International Student Office to pay the tuition fee and insurance fee.

3) If you plan to live on campus, please complete the procedures of dormitory application and pay a minimum six-month accommodation fee at the International Student Office. If you decide to live off campus, you should submit a legal lodging certificate (if you stay at a hotel, the certificate should be provided by the hotel; if you stay in a residence, the certificate should be provided by the local police station).

4) Receive the Beijing Forestry University International Student Handbook from International

Student Office.

5) Take your Student Registration Notice Letter to register at your own colleges.

6) Have the physical examination or health report verification at the Health Center of Beijing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

7) Participate in the orientation activities organized by International Student Office.

8) Submit the Beijing Forestry University International Student Registration Form and School Registration Transfer Order signed by dean of the school to the International Student Office, and provide the current living address and Chinese phone number to the office.

9) Receive student ID, campus card, medical card and insurance card.

 

Current Student:

1) At the beginning of the new semester, students should take your student ID (self-supporting students should also take your accommodation fee receipt or lodging certificate) to register at the International Student Office on the designated day.

2) Take the Registration Notice Letter to register at your own college.

From the first day of the semester, all the international students should complete all the registration procedures at the International Student Office within two weeks. If they cannot register in time due to some reasons, they should submit a request for delay in writing, otherwise they will be deemed as dropout, and the tuition fee paid by self-supporting students will not be returned back and the subsidy for those scholarship students will be suspended..

 

Language Study Students:

1) Chinese language students and the international students with Chinese government scholarships participating in the Chinese language training program should receive their syllabus of Chinese language courses and then buy their own text books according to the syllabus. The text books for the students with Chinese government scholarships will be provided by the International Student Office.

2) The Chinese language courses usually will begin in the second week of the semester.

Payment Regulation:

International students should pay the tuition fee within designated period. Those who receive certificate education should pay the whole year tuition at the beginning of each academic year and those who are not should pay the tuition at the beginning of each semester.

Notice: If you choose to transfer money into the bank account of the university, you should do it prior to August 30th. You will receive the invoice from the financial office after registration with your transfer form. And the procedure fee in transfer will be covered by student themselves.

 

4. Scholarship Students

Here the scholarships refer to Chinese Government Scholarship, Asia-Pacific Forest Restoration and Sustainability Network Scholarship, Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship. Different scholarships would cover different contents.

1) The type and content of the scholarship you enjoy could be found in the admission letter.

2) About the living subsidy

If your scholarship covers your living expenses, please pay attention to the following information:

+ After the registration day, the International Student Office will send you the living subsidy in cash. After receiving the bank card from the Bank of China, please provide the receipt of opening this account and one copy of the first page of your passport to the international student office. Note: the annual fee of the card will be covered by student themselves.

From the second month, your subsidy will be transferred directly into your bank account.

For the newly enrolled students, if you register before or on the 15th of the current month, you will receive a full-month subsidy, however, if you register after the 15th of the current month, you will receive only a half-month subsidy.

+ For the students who are going to graduate, the subsidy will be granted until the half of July.

+ For the students who are absent from schooling, or drop out or wind up their studies and go back to their home countries, the subsidy will be suspended from the next month after their leaving.

+ The subsidy will be continued to release during the vacations.

+ If the students with scholarships fail to register in time without any request, or if they are absent from courses for more than one month due to non-health causes, their subsidy of the month will be suspended.

3) About accommodation

The International Student Office will arrange accommodation for the students with the scholarships covering accommodation. Single rooms are for PhD students, and double rooms are for masters and undergraduates. The dormitory is only for student’s personal use. No family relatives could stay in it. All the students should obey the regulation of the dormitory as well as the arrangement of the International Student Office.

For the students without the scholarships covering accommodation, they could also apply for the dormitory in campus and pay it by themselves.

4) About Medical Care

If the scholarship covers medical care, the International Student Office will give you the full-year medical care subsidy in cash within the first month as well as the medical card of the university with your photo and other personal information in it. Students could take it to go to the campus hospital and receive students’ treatments. And if you are transferred to another hospital, students should first pay the medical fee by themselves, keep the medical receipts and contact the insurance company after Out-patient. If the students need to be hospitalized, they can contact the insurance company directly and the clerk from the insurance company will come to the hospital and pay the relevant fees. Note: the hospital must be a public hospital acknowledged by the insurance company, the private one is unacceptable.

Students without the scholarships for medical care have to pay for your medical fees yourselves under the guidance from International Student Office..

 

5. Residence Permit and Visa Application

1) International students who have studied in Beijing Forestry University for more than one year (including one year) should apply for X1 visa before coming to China, while those who have studied in BFU for less than one semester (including one semester) should apply for X2 visa before coming to China.

2) Students with X1 visa should apply for the residence permit for foreigners within 30 days after the day you arrive in China. Those with X2 visa who live off campus have to apply for temporary lodging certificate.

4) Take following documents to residence permit application:

Valid passport (regular passport)

Beijing Forestry University Admission Letter and the official letter from the International Student Office with the period of study on it

Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (also known as the JW201/JW202 Form)

Visa and Residence Permit Application Form with the official seal of the International Student Office and the autograph of the teacher in charge on it

A recent standard ID picture (background color: blue/white)

The original copy of the health report from Beijing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau

Valid lodging certificate

 

Notice: It usually takes five work days to complete the residence permit application. However, since many international students from different universities in Beijing apply for residence permit in September, it will take more time. It may take about one month to receive it, so students should open the bank account with the passport first.

 

6. Orientation

1) The orientation organized by the International Student Office aims to offer generally information and regulations to all the new international students. Each of the new student has to attend it on time. Teachers from Office of Teaching Affairs, Graduate School, Library and International Student Office will be invited to it. And they will answer your questions, helping you get used to studying and living at BFU.

2) At the beginning of each semester, officers from Beijing Exit and Entry Administration will be invited to brief you on the exit and entry laws and regulations of China.
