APFNet Scholarship Program 2018 for Master’s Degree in

Beijing Forestry University General Rules of Enrollment

 

 

Program description

Students are required to complete the courses within two years, submit a dissertation on the chosen field of the Master’s degree and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Graduates will receive a Graduation Certificate along with the Master’s Diploma.

 

Fields of study

- Forestry Economics and Management

 

  • Curriculum and Credit Requirement

Students must get 27 credits required for the degree, including 23 credits for basic courses and four credits for the dissertation preparation. Among the basic courses which are required to be completed within the first year, 13 credits are allocated to degree courses.

 

  • Major-related Courses

Advanced Forest Ecology, Sustainable Forest Operation and Management, Forest Economics, Silviculture, Forest Pest Control, Monitoring and Evaluation of Forest Resources, Natural Resources and Environmental Economics, Forest Policy, Forest Management in Human Settlements, Conservation, Chinese Language and Chinese Society and Culture.

 

At least one academic paper related to the Master study should be published (or accepted) in an English academic journal that is publicly available (domestic or international), during the master’s program.

 

Students who choose to major in Forestry Economics and Management will be conferred a Master’s Degree in Management.

 

Application eligibility

-Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens from APFNet member economies including Australia, Hong Kong China, Bangladesh, India, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Canada, Malaysia, P.R. China, Mexico, Fiji Islands, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Peru, United States, the Philippines, Viet Nam.

- Applicants from developing economies prioritized

- Age18 - 40, holding a valid passport, in good health and have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited higher education institute in forestry or related field.

- At least 2-year work experiences are prioritized

-Those who are Chinese citizens previously and are immigrants later should implement Document No. 83 in 2009 issued by Ministry of Education.

Application Procedure

Step 1: Prepare materials (scanning copies are needed)

(1) Passport information page;

(2) Applicant’s Certificate of Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited higher education institute in forestry or related field (English version);

(3) The official credit transcript (English version);

(4) A study and research plan (no less than1000 words in English);

(5) Certificates of English language proficiency (IELTS score no less than 6.0, TOFEL IBT score no less than 79 or some other documents that demonstrate the applicant is proficient in English.);

(6) Letters of reference in English from two professors or associate professors;

(7) Letter of reference from the applicant’s employer/organization showing the applicant’s work experience in related field (only for those who has work experience);

(8)  Applicants are encouraged to find a research supervisor. (9) Physical Examination Form(could be downloaded from our website), completed in English, for those who will study in China for more than 6 months. The physical examination must cover all items listed in the form. Incomplete records or those without a sealed photograph of the applicant, the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital are invalid. Given the 6-month validity of the medical results, applicants should select the appropriate time to take the physical examination;

Step 2: Apply online

  • Register and upload all the application materials at the following website ( http://apply.studybeijing.com.cn/member/login.do ) .

  • Please fill in all your information seriously.

     

    Review process and admission

    After having received the application materials, five working days are needed to consult with admissions staff and the Faculty review teams to verify the applicants’ eligibility and qualifications. The applicants whose materials have been approved will be informed to attend an online interview in early June. The result will be released on our official website (http://www.studybeijing.com.cn/English/) within 2 weeks after the interview.

     

    The admission package, including Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202), will be mailed to the enrolled students before June 30th. Applicants are advised to clearly state their postal address in the relevant forms.

     

    Registration period will be specified in the Admission Notice.

4. Physical Examination Form (including lung X-rays, blood test, and EKG);

5.6 Passport photos (with WHITE background);

Coverage of scholarship grants

Admitted students will be offered the scholarship grants supported by APFNet to cover their costs and expenses including tuition fees, accommodation on campus, monthly living allowances, outpatient medical services, comprehensive medical insurance and benefit plan for international students in China.

Regulations of APFNet Scholarship Program

 

 

The Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) has launched the Scholarship Program to support highly capable forestry officials and young researchers in the Asia-Pacific region to complete courses or to conduct scientific research in the field of sustainable forest management and rehabilitation in Chinese institution of higher education. The Scholarship Program is expected to equip talented officials and young scholars in the forest sector with advanced managerial concepts and techniques to improve sustainable forest management and rehabilitation in the region. APFNet entrusts Beijing Forestry University (BFU) as one of the host universities to recruit prospective students, preliminarily screen the applications and recommend potential candidates to APFNet.

 

  1. < > of the APFNet Scholarship 

     

    The 2018 APFNet Scholarship will be offered to talented officials and young scholars working in the forest sector in the Asia-Pacific region (including Australia, Hong Kong China, Bangladesh, India, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Canada, Malaysia, P.R. China, Mexico, Fiji Islands, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Peru, United States, the Philippines, Viet Nam) to complete Master’s degree in the Forestry Economics and Management. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree.

     

    The scholarship grants will be provided to candidates upon their admission into the Master’s Program and will cover their study in the two-year period. This time frame can only be shortened or extended in the case of extenuating circumstances.

     

    All courses will be conducted in ENGLISH.

     

    The final selection of students will be based on the qualifications of each applicant, taking account of the regional balance, gender balance and appropriate proportion between forest personnel at central and local levels.

     

    2.   Provisions of the APFNet Scholarship Program

     

    (1) Coverage of Scholarship grants

    Living allowance: CNY3,000 per month

  4. Lump-sum payment for routine outpatient medical services, regardless of actual costs, to be paid once per year: CNY 400 per year.

  5. Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China in case of hospitalization for serious diseases and accidental injuries.

     

    When on-campus accommodation is not available, scholarship students will receive accommodation allowances of CNY 1,500 per month to find alternative private lodging and must fulfill the registration formality according to relevant regulations in China. The host institution will provide assistance and advice if needed.

     

    (2) The scholarship students shall receive their monthly living allowances following registration, including winter and summer vacation. New students who enroll on or before the 15 September 2018 will receive the full monthly amount and those who enroll after the 15 September 2018 will receive 50%. Upon graduation, students will be paid the living allowance until the graduation date set by the university. When students suspend their studies, drop out of school, or complete their schooling, their allowance will be terminated as of the following month. The allowance will be suspended for one month for those students who do not enroll on time (unless they have permission from the university), leave for non-health reasons, or are absent from university for more than one month.

     

    The scholarship students themselves will cover the additional costs of the internship or the use of laboratories beyond arrangements made by the university. They will also cover fees for examinations, dining and library cards, experiments, internships and the purchase of reference books.

     

    Upon arrival in China, scholarship students who are found to be affected with diseases that prohibit their entrance according to Chinese laws are required to return to their home economy immediately and they will be responsible for covering all travel expenses incurred.

     

    (3) Scholarship students who fall ill during their studies shall be treated at BFU’s infirmary and, if necessary, be transferred to another hospital recommended by BFU. If they commit offenses against laws or against BFU regulations, they must cover all medical and other expenses resulting from the infractions.

     

    (4) Scholarship students who are obliged to suspend their studies for health reasons are required to return to their home economy for treatment as soon as possible and are required to cover the cost of resulting travel expenses. Those who wish to reserve their scholarship status are required to apply to BFU and the APFNet. With BFU approval, this status may be reserved for up to one year and the scholarship and living allowances shall be suspended during the period of leave. Otherwise, the students shall continue their studies at their own expenses upon their return to campus. The scholarship status shall not be reserved for those who suspend their studies for other reasons.

    Each applicant shall apply through the BFU application system, The APFNet and BFU will form a review team to screen these recommendations and finally select the students to be funded.

    Applications can be submitted from February 1st to May 31th each year.

     

    (3) Applicants for the APFNet Scholarship Program shall provide the scanning copy of following documents:

    4. Admission of Scholarship Students and Travel to China

 After having received the application materials, five working days are needed to consult with admissions staff and faculty review teams to verify the applicants’ acceptability. The applicants whose materials have been approved would be informed of online interview in early June. The result will be released on our official website (http://www.studybeijing.com.cn/English/) within 2 weeks after the interview.

 The admission package, including Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202) will be mailed to the enrolled students before June 30th. Applicants are advised to clearly state their postal address in the relevant forms.

 

The scholarship students shall apply to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General for the Visa for Studying in China, by providing a valid passport, Visa Application Form for Studying in China, and Admission Notice. They must also submit a completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form if they intend to study in China for more than 6 months and bring all the aforementioned documents to China for registration and enrollment at BFU.

5. Change of Majors and Extension of Study

Upon arrival in China, the scholarship students, in principle, may not change their majors or extend the duration of their studies. Those who must do so for specific reasons are required to apply to the International Student Office of BFU for approval. Those who change their majors or extend their duration of study on their own, without approval, shall be disqualified from the scholarship program.

 

6. Annual Review of Scholarship

According to the provisions of the APFNet Scholarship, the International Student Office of BFU shall conduct a comprehensive annual review of scholarship students who study for more than one academic year and decide whether they can maintain their scholarship.

 

7. Suspension, Re-entry and Drop-out of Scholarship Students

(1) Suspension of Study

Scholarship students who have to suspend their study for health reasons are required to submit a written application to the International Student Office of BFU and enclose relevant medical documents such as examination and diagnosis certificates issued by the hospital. The International Student Office will review such applications according to regulations set by BFU before approving them. Those who suspend their study for non-health reasons shall lose their scholarship status. For students who have been granted permission to suspend their study, suspension of their scholarship status shall begin on the first day of their leave. They shall return to their home economy for treatment as early as possible and they must cover associated travel expenses on their own.

 

(2) Re-entry

Upon expiry of the suspension period, students are required to submit a written application for re-entry to the International Student Office of BFU, along with medical documents such as the recovery certificate issued by the hospital. If applications are approved, the International Student Office will issue the Re-entry Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China to the applicants. With these documents, the students may apply for the required Visa. If BFU refuses applications for re-entry, it will inform students in writing. The duration of the scholarship for students whose re-entry applications are approved shall be extended for a period not longer than the period of their leave.

 

(3) Drop-out

The scholarship status of students who must or are persuaded to cease their studies shall be terminated on the date they drop out and they must cover all travel expenses to return to their home economies.

 

8. Medical Insurance

Comprehensive insurance coverage for APFNet scholarship students is provided by BFU in case of hospitalization for serious diseases or accidental injuries. BFU shall claim for compensation from the insurance companies with relevant medical expense receipts, in accordance with stipulated insurance articles.
